Responsibilities:
Serve as Principal's designee LEA for ESE staffing determining eligibility and making important educationally and behaviorally related decisions Design the overall process to ensure compliance and consistency in meeting District goals and meeting all Federal/State Department mandates and District policies Coordinate and conduct all ESE staffing meetings for eligibility, IEP annuals, interims and reevaluation Provide on-site professional development to school based personnel related to procedures and programming for ESE students Lead staffing committee members in the development of quality IEPs for students and oversee distribution Maintain, organize and keep confidential all student files Consult with and inform parents on issues related to eligibility, placement and services Respond to inquiries from schools, parents and employees in a timely manner Ensure all ESE cases are in compliance with IDEA Federal Guidelines, ESE State mandates, and district policies Act as case manager for all ESE students including gifted Attend ESE meetings and relay pertinent information to school leadership Make appropriate referrals for assistive technology and other ESE supports Monitor program delivery and disciplinary action for ESE students Consult and collaborate with ESE support staff and general education teachers on student issues Initiate referrals to alternative centers for ESE students Serve as Liaison between school administration and Program Specialist, Advanced Academics District Department, 504 District Departments, Psychological Student Services, and agencies outside the District Demonstrate initiative and a proactive orientation to recognizing and resolving issues, concerns, or problems Attend off campus meetings Meet with parents to provide clarification of program goals and state and federal mandates Conduct informal mediation meetings involving parents and school staff Assist in audit preparation for compliance Prepare required reports and maintain appropriate records Provide accurate data for completion of the budget tool and FTE related information Conduct FTE necessary preparatory procedures Maintain Matrix data Schedule and monitor support services such as family counseling, behavior support, itinerant, etc.
Conduct screenings for gifted Conduct diagnostic assessments Participate in Child Study Teams and the RTI process Conduct FBA/BIP and maintain proper documentation Prepare documentation, determine eligibility, and conduct meetings related to 504 plans Assist general education teachers in creating behavior plans and implementing behavior modification techniques for non-ESE students Maintain and enrich his/her expertise in the subject area he/she will teach Develop lesson plans that ensure the attainment of state learning standards Coordinate lesson plans with other teachers to maximize possibilities for teaching similar topics in the same general time frame, thus reinforcing student knowledge on an interdisciplinary basis Provide direct and indirect instruction Long- and short-term planning addressing individual needs of students Prepare students adequately for all required assessments Evaluate students' progress Prepare, at least, quarterly individual achievement reports for parents Provide an inviting, exciting, innovative, learning environment Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff Serve as an advisor to all students, including organizing advisory groups, overseeing their academic and behavioral progress Maintain consistent communication with parents, keeping them informed of any accomplishments or declines in the progress of the student Uses computers and other technology provided to assist students Gathers, maintains, and submits, as directed, all information and forms related to the use of technology Keeps accurate records on each student such as progress reports, lesson plans, attendance records, and behavior/discipline records Attends and/ or participates in such other activities as directed by the Administrator such as:
faculty meetings (before or after school hours), open houses, commencement exercises Participates on faculty committees, helps resolve school problems, and participates in the preparation of courses of study Agrees to abide by the policies, directives, and guidelines as stated in all School manuals pertinent to the position Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate by the Principal Requires:
Demonstrated experience in the ESE, as evidenced by personal skills and knowledge or direct teaching experience; Undergraduate major or minor or graduate degree in the subject to be taught; Possess any required state teaching certification and meet all other applicable credential requirements; Demonstrated communication skills; Demonstrated ability and experience to engage the interest of teenage students; Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students, including students with special needs; Demonstrated organizational skills; Demonstrate ability in data management and presentation; Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member; Demonstrated ability to evaluate tests and measures of achievement; Agreement with the academic goals and philosophy of the charter school; Commitment to accountability, including accountability for student results; Demonstrated success in encouraging parental involvement and working successfully with parents.
