Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Technologist to join our team. As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for performing laboratory tests and procedures to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. You will work closely with healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely test results.
SCHEDULE: Full-time Monday-Friday with rotating Saturdays; 11a-7p shift
Duties:
The technologist is responsible for fulfilling the responsibilities assigned by the supervisor and will only perform tests as authorized by the director.
2. Follows the clinical laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
3. Adheres to the clinical laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed in accordance with the clinical laboratory's approved policies and procedures.
4. Follows the clinical laboratory's established quality control and assurance policies whenever test systems are not within the clinical laboratory's defined acceptable levels of performance.
5. Follows established procedure in evaluation, specimen integrity, result accuracy and validity, and takes corrective action as necessary. Such corrective action shall include specimen rejection, requesting recollection, and/or retesting using the same or alternate methods and/or utilizes other skills associated with the practice of clinical laboratory science to ensure validity and accuracy of testing at all times taking care not to compromise patient care with excessive rejections, recollections or delays
6. Participate in proficiency testing samples and ensure that these samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
7. Perform QC testing and recognize deviation from acceptable values. Follow established protocol for remedial action. Verify all assays are in control before releasing patient results.
8. Is capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and able to assist in resolving technical problems.
9. Responsible for daily, weekly and monthly maintenance. Perform necessary calibration of instruments and ensure calibration period is adequate to cover testing.
10. Perform pre-analytical responsibilities such as sample prep, accessioning/data entry, worklist build, and sample storage.
11. Maintain Inventory in a neat and acceptable manner.
12. Participate in continuing education and in-service programs.
Qualifications:
Must exhibit skills in laboratory technology, including a basic understanding of scientific theories, principles, instrumentation and accepted practices. Use judgment to plan and perform diversified duties. Must have the ability to work independently with limited direct supervision to complete tasks within specified turn-around time and according to approved laboratory procedures. Ability to troubleshoot instrument issues and adapt quickly to changes in workflow is necessary.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology preferred; or Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Biology.
LICENSURE: Must be licensed as a Medical Technologist or Supervisor by the State of Florida in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Serology/Immunology, Microbiology and Molecular Pathology.
NATIONAL CERTIFICATION: ASCP, AAB, AMT, or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience preferred. Experience in toxicology and/or molecular is preferred but not required.
JOB DEMANDS: Demands will include manually pipetting plates and light lifting; however, emotional stress is involved in meeting time and accuracy standards. Exposure to infectious diseases is always a possibility when work involves blood, sera, body fluids, and other infectious materials.
