Mathematical Statistician

Basic Requirement:
A degree that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics, OR a combination of education and experience that includes at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Note:
Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement must have included at least four of the following:
differential calculus, integral calculus, advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite. Courses in mathematical statistics or probability theory with a prerequisite of elementary calculus or more advanced courses will be accepted toward meeting the mathematics requirements, with the provision that the same course cannot be counted toward both the mathematics and the statistics requirement. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must meet the specialized experience described below. For the GS-11 level:
A. Specialized
Experience:
You must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the GS-9 or equivalent level, specialized experience is defined as:
applying mathematical, statistical, or text analysis using software packages, communicating analysis results, and using those results to contribute to an organization's mission; OR B. A qualifying Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the previously listed fields and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks. OR C. Education as described in (A) above and experience as described in (B) above which when combined totals 100% of the necessary education and experience to qualify for this position. For the GS-12 level:
Specialized
Experience:
You must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the GS-11 or equivalent level, specialized experience is defined as:
applying mathematical, statistical, or text analysis using software packages, effective communication of analysis results, experience translating requirements into useful mathematical, statistical, or text analyses that contribute value to the organization's mission, and independently completing complex projects of an urgent nature with little/no supervision. Education cannot be substituted for experience at the GS-12 grade level. Candidates will be further evaluated on the level and quality of their experience and possession of the following relevant competencies in order to determine the level of your qualifications. These competencies include:
Skill in analyzing data Knowledge of data mining processes Skill in data preparation for modeling and analysis Knowledge of statistical software Mathematical and statistical analysis presentation All qualification and education requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
