General Admin Office Support Intern

As a Student Trainee, you will work with higher graded staff in support of office programs and activities to gain practical work experience that augments training in an academic course of study. This position is located in the Investigations Division, Miami Field Office. Specific responsibilities include:
Identifying data required for use in the management and direction of programs. Coordinating assigned activities in support of program operations. Identifying various resources (e.g. staffing equipment) required to support program operations. Researching and investigating new or improved business and management practices for application to agency programs or operations. Using office automation software to produce a variety of materials such as spreadsheets, plans, procedures, memoranda, letters, charts, database, travel requests, and presentations from rough drafts. Assisting in establishing and maintaining an extensive high volume suspense tracking system. Answering the telephone and greeting visitors, answering questions not requiring significant technical knowledge, referring the technical questions to the appropriate staff member. Performing other administrative and management support assignments. Using word processing software to type letters, memoranda, reports, etc. from handwritten or rough drafts, marked-up copy, and oral instructions into final, error-free copy. Ensures correct punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and grammar and verifies that the format conforms to OIG regulations, style manuals, and office procedures. Assembling data and using database or spreadsheet software to enter, revise, sort, or calculate and retrieve data for standard reports. Assisting in establishing and maintaining an extensive high volume suspense tracking system. Answering the telephone and greeting visitors; answering questions not requiring significant technical knowledge, referring the technical questions to the appropriate staff member. Receiving and reviewing incoming mail, reports, and other documents for distribution to appropriate staff according to established procedures and knowledge of organization. Qualifications:
Must be at least 16 years of age. Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a Technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school, at a qualifying educational institution on a half-time or full-time basis. Must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 or better (must provide a transcript and proof of enrollment/acceptance letter); these standards will be in effect for the duration of the internship. Completed 2 full academic years of post-high school education or an Associate Degree (one year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in a college or university; or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school). General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to perform the duties of General Office and Administrative Support Intern. Examples of general experience include:
filing materials in alphabetical or chronological order; operating a copier machine; collating and stapling materials; producing a variety of written documents utilizing various word processing software functions; securing information from files and related sources. To qualify for the GS-5 level, you must have at least, you must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience; or have completed four (4) academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree; or a combination of both specialized experience and education. Specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical office support work that indicates the ability to perform the duties of a General Office and Administrative Support Intern. Examples of specialized experience include:
reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness; typing and formatting correspondence and forms; obtaining information from files or general reference sources; taking messages and scheduling appointments; performing routine administrative functions.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster.
