As an Ecologist within the Wetland & Aquatic Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:
Develop a research program related to quantitative modeling and evaluation of animal populations and their habitats focusing on the southeastern U.S. Utilize research methods that can provide scientific basis for natural resource management decisions. Serve as a subject matter expert in ecological modeling. Disseminate research results via final reports, peer reviewed scientific journals; make presentations on findings to scientific and conservation organizations. Applicants must meet A below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Ecologist, all grade levels. A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours or the equivalent in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours or the equivalent in ecology, and 12 semester hours or the equivalent in physical and mathematical sciences. For GS-11:
If you are qualifying based on experience you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Examples of GS-9 level work may include:
1) participating in the planning and execution of ecological or biological studies with a limited number of variables; 2) performing established, standardized tests and analyses on a broad range of biological samples; 3) publish scientific papers as first author; or 4) conducting studies using established fact-finding and evaluation procedures.You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
