Description:
This 1955 Corvette, a two-time NCRS Top Flight award winner, is oh-so-close to perfect, having scored 98.
5 out of a possible 100 points at a regional event.
Its recent no-expense-spared restoration, completed in 2017 by Michael Capozzio at Classic Corvette Restorations in Chardon, Ohio, was done with a mix of restored original and correct reproduction parts.
The frame has the correct factory stencil markings and VIN stamp, and the brakes are restored originals.
The spiral shocks are correct reproductions, as are the rebound straps for the live-axle rear suspension.
The 1955 model year marked the first time a V-8 was offered in the Corvette, and the 265/195 HP small-block in this car is its original engine.
A correct reproduction chrome air filter housing sparkles in the engine bay.
Beneath it, the Carter carburetor and intake manifold are restored originals.
So, too, are the Delco Remy ignition coil and ignition shielding.
Restored original exhaust manifolds attach to a correct reproduction Gardner exhaust system, which ends with restored original tailpipes (designed by Zora Arkus-Duntov himself with baffles to direct the exhaust downward).
During the car's restoration, the body was found to be intact, with no patch panels or other evidence of it being hit.
The Corvette is painted in the popular Polo White.
Adam Parker made the new convertible top using original materials on the car's original top frame.
Steve Newsom restored the original side curtains, along with the hubcaps and the dashboard knobs.
The Sportsman Red interior is made with new Al Knoch door panels, dash pad, carpets and seat upholstery, which was fastened over the original seat frames.
The original gauges were restored, as was the Wonderbar radio and windshield wiper motor.
Even the jack and lug wrench have been restored.
